About Autobiographical Theatre for Social Innovation

The Autobiographical Theatre as an innovative pedagogical approach to promote social inclusion, particularly for vulnerable groups such as migrants, adults with mental health challenges, and individuals facing dual pathologies. Originally designed by Domingo Ferrandis, this methodology helps individuals confront stigma, express personal narratives, and foster connections within their communities. Two-Pronged Methodology: Dramatherapy and Autobiographical Theatre

Autobiographical Theatre for Social Innovation combines Dramatherapy and Autobiographical Theatre in a two-part intervention.

The first part focuses on the personal development of participants, offering them a safe space to share their stories, thoughts, and feelings through dramatherapy techniques like improvisation and artistic expression. This process allows participants to process their experiences, boost self-esteem, and combat social isolation. The ultimate goal is to provide individuals with the tools to confront discrimination, analyze the impact of stigma on their lives, and create a strategic approach to overcome it.

The second part involves staging the autobiographical piece, allowing participants to present their stories to a broader audience. This public performance not only helps the individuals involved but also raises awareness in the community, challenging societal prejudices and reducing stigma associated with mental health, past incarceration, and other vulnerabilities. The performance serves as a catalyst for social change, inviting audiences to empathize and recognize that vulnerability is a shared, human experience.
